Student Project House
The ETH Student Project House already had a website for its users and visitors. However, after using it myself, I noticed that the navigation was unstructured, making it easy to lose track of the content. My goal was to create a new, user-friendly structure and an optimized design. One of the main challenges was maintaining the existing visual identity while significantly improving usability.
Research and Analysis
To determine the most intuitive structure for users, I conducted card sorting and usability tests. These methods revealed that the large amount of content made navigation challenging. The key task was to identify which content should be prioritised and how to structure it logically.
Wireframe and prototyping
After the research phase, I started designing new wireframes and prototypes. The existing SPH style guide served as the foundation but needed to be complemented with a clearer structure and new interactive elements. Together with my colleagues, we developed a design that was both visually appealing and easy to navigate. We focused on making interactive elements clearly distinguishable to enhance the user experience.
Handover and outcome
Before the implementation phase, I had to hand over the project to another team member, as I was finishing my apprenticeship. To ensure a smooth transition, I documented my research, design decisions, and the new structure clearly. With the new design, navigation became more intuitive, and the content was structured more effectively. Users could find information more quickly and gained a better overview of what the Student Project House had to offer. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with users particularly appreciating the clear organization of the content.
